Today Beadsaholic brings a review of two new beads from Spiritbeads Elephant and Spirit of India!
I am excited that Spiritbeads has added two India inspired beads to their collection. I love the Indian culture, the clothes, jewels and the food!
Spiritbeads Elephant is a beautiful decorated royal elephant with trunk and tusk up for good luck! This bead measures approximately 16.08 mm high x 13.62 mm wide and weighs 5.8 grams. Elephant retails for €55, price includes vat.
Spiritbeads Limited Edition Kokeshi Spirit of India is a stunning new Kokeshi with rich detailing of India, hair is up and decorated with jewels and flowers. She is wearing a beautiful lehenga adorned with your choice of ruby, sapphire or emerald, mine has a ruby. This bead measures approximately 15.92 mm high x 9.45 mm wide and weighs 4.6 grams. Kokeshi Spirit of India is limited to three hundred (300) pieces, comes with a certificate and retails for €65, price includes vat.
In India you will find beautiful rich jewel tones which inspired the creation of this bracelet. I wanted to show all the beautiful colors. I also choose beads that for me resonate with the Indian culture.
Now for some up-close photos of the beads I used in this bracelet.

I feel that the human figurine bead looks more like a traditional Tanjore roundpot doll (rotating doll) while the hair resembles that of the dolls from Central and North West India. Looking at the back of the bead, I thought that she was wearing a saree as opposed to the lehenga you had mentioned. However, she is an interesting chimera of various aesthetics.

You might be right, It does look more like a saree and roundpot doll. I believe they went with “Kokeshi” to expand their Kokeshi line which were previously focused on Asian culture where the doll originates. I’m curious to where they will take this and personally would love to see beads made in light of different cultures to represent women around the world.
