Today Beadsaholic brings a review of the OHM Beads March 2020 Collection.
For March OHM Beads has released a rather small collection of only two beads worldwide, an Australian exclusive and three Art Oblivion exclusives. All are set to release on March 5, 2020. This release is lovely, and each bead is beautifully detailed. I feel I need a few more beads to really create a theme, but I love the bangles I have created and sharing in this review.
OHM Beads Betty Buttons is such a cute ragdoll with button eyes, pigtails and an OHM Patch on her bottom. This is a nice addition to the collection, and I think it goes well with some of the previously released torn or used animals and hearts to remind us of childhood memories of our own or our children. This bead measures approximately 14.09 mm high x 9.05 mm wide and retails for $55 / €57, price include vat.
“Another installment in the line of Community Designed Projects is BETTY BUTTONS! Named by OHMily, designed by OHMily, made for OHM for OHMily. OHM + FAMILY = LOVE
The theme was vintage toys, and what is more vintage than the rag doll, as it is one of the oldest children’s toys in history, dating back to ancient Rome. Traditionally, a rag doll is made by hand from cloth, stuffed with scraps of leftover sewing materials. The dolls can have soft, simple bodies, yarn for hair, button eyes, and are often dressed in patchwork clothing. Ragdolls were used to teach children how to sew, and the dolls became much-beloved comfort objects to cuddle.
The popularity of these dolls began to grow around 1830, when fabric color printing was first developed. Around 1918, a doll named Raggedy Ann became the first tie-in merchandise with a book called “Raggedy Ann Stories,” written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle, marketed along with the actual doll. Raggedy Ann became so popular that her brother, Raggedy Andy, was introduced in 1920.
We at OHM are proud to introduce our own popular little rag doll bead named Betty Buttons, created from a series of submissions by you, our OHMies. You can easily imagine that Betty was lovingly patched together by an eager little girl just learning to sew. Betty Buttons does indeed have large button eyes and flower-shaped buttons on her frilly dress. She has a splash of adorable freckles and high ponytails in her yarn hair. Betty even has our OHM logo patched onto her little lacy bloomers.
If you ever cuddled a favorite doll, stuffed animal, security blanket, or comfort object as a child, then Betty Buttons was made especially for you. Ahhhh, feeling better already?”
There truly is endless possibility with OHM Betty Buttons. I personally love Betty Buttons as a focal here with OHM Holey Bunny, Hug Me and Slim Path, Fog, Bark and Fall.
OHM Beads Cyborg is a rather cool futuristic skull with tons of mechanical detailing. I love the gear detailing on the side and really wish I had the OHM Widget, Mech Tech and Short Circuit to go along with him to complete the theme. This bead measures approximately 11.61 mm high x 14.51 mm deep x 10.65 mm wide and retails for $55 / €57, price include vat.
“A cyborg — short for “cybernetic organism”– is a being with both organic and mechanical body parts, often with restored or enhanced capabilities through its integration of technology with living matter. According to some, we humans are already becoming cyborgs with cardiac pacemakers, biomechanical limbs, and contact lenses.
Maybe it’s both. One half of our cyborg friend reveals an exposed brain pumped with fluids and jolts of electricity. Its jaw is operated by a mesh of gears. The other half of our cyborg is encased in a futuristic helmet fully wired with computer circuitry. This side of the jaw is moved with hydraulic pistons. A multi-lens camera peers from one eye socket.
There have been many famous cyborgs in literature and cinema from Robocop to Darth Vader, but our OHM CYBORG skull will animate your bracelet with enhanced creepiness and complete cool. Now that’s a glimpse into your future! “
Love those gears!
Honestly, I didn’t have much as far as a theme for this bead. I collect skulls, so it is a nice addition to my collection and will work for me in random composition, as I mentioned above OHM makes a few beads that I think would work great with the Cyborg. However, I do feel that OHM Mended Heart is perfect to pair with the Cyborg. Seen here with OHM Pressure Point, Fog, and Released Tension.
OHM Beads Gouldian is a beautiful barrel shape bead with shades of purple, yellow and green. Raising birds and being a part of bird shows for so many years, I always admired how beautiful the Gouldian finch were and always wanted an aviary full of these beautiful birds. OHM Australia has captured the beautiful color in this exclusive glass bead. I also think it’s perfect for a Mardi Gras bracelet and was my inspiration this past Fat Tuesday. This bead is a standard size of 15 mm high x 9 mm wide. This bead is not available for preorder and will only be available starting March 5, 2020 through OHM Beads Website.
“The Australian outback is rife with diverse life and the GOULDIAN finch is no exception with its bright plumage. The incredible color-blocking causes some to refer to this bird as a rainbow finch. With substantial blocks of purple, green, and yellow, this avian friend is a testament to the possibilities of nature. Lady GOULDIAN is near threatened with the encroaching changes to its habitat. It is important to continue to support the conservation efforts of saving life on this planet. Please donate directly to the wildlife charity organization of your choice. For suggestions on where you can donate to, please reach out to us. Celebrate the beautiful colors of Australia with OHM’s GOULDIAN tri-colored glass design. Only available from OHM in Australia.”
Of course, if you follow me on social media you saw this bracelet this past Tuesday as it was my Mardi Gras – Fat Tuesday bracelet and by the color theme I’m sure you have guessed why this bead is perfect in this theme. This is another bead that I think has endless possibilities and I look forward to mixing and playing with this bead.
Overall, I think this is a nice release. I’m still working out the ideas of how to use the Cyborg in my collection, but I’m sure I’ll find the perfect composition for it. I personally can’t wait to see how you all use these beads in your own compositions.
If you would like to preorder Betty Buttons or Cyborg you may do so at the following links, and all will be available on the OHM Beads website on March 5, 2020. Want to see a live preview of this collection? You can find the video here.
