Spiritbeads Amabie Yokai Review

Today Beadsaholic brings a review of the latest collection from Spiritbeads.

This weekend Spiritbeads introduced their latest bead Amabie Yokai to their collection. Amabie is a Japanese Yokai a mermaid-like creature with long hair, a beak and three tail-like legs. In this folklore legend when an Amabie appears to you it is good luck and you will have a good harvest. It is also said that drawing a picture of an Amabie Yokai will ward off sickness and protect you during an epidemic. So, I will wear my little good luck charm in hopes for an end to Covid.

Along with Spiritbeads Amabie Yokai we will also take a closer look at Spiritbeads Glass Swimming Pool and Shell with Pearl.

Spiritbeads Amabie Yokai is such a cute mermaid-like creature with scales over it’s entire body, fins on each side of her head with long wavy hair, a beak-like mouth and three tail-like legs. Amabie Yokai retails for €55, price includes vat.

“Spiritbeads Amabie Yokai

Amabie is a mermaid with three legs who has its origin in the Japanese mythology. She rises from the sea and predicts an epidemic.

Legend: According to the legend, the Amalie appeared in the Edo period. During the night, a glowing object was seen in the sea almost every day. The city official went to the coast to watch and examine the amabie. According to a sketch, it had long hair, a mouth like a bird’s beak, was covered with scales from the neck down, and was tripod. It introduced itself to the officer as Amabie and told him that it lived on the open sea. It conveyed the following prophecy: “This year there will be a good harvest for six years; when a disease spreads, draw a picture of me and show it to those who get sick and they will be cured.” Then it returned to the sea.“

Spiritbeads Shell with Pearl is an oxidized Broad-Ribbed Cardita shell adorned with a pearl attached inside. This bead will look nice dangling from the wrist or as a pendant on a necklace. This bead retails for €45, price includes vat.

Spiritbeads Glass Swimming Pool is a nice barrel style glass bead with reflective blue pools in different sizes around the bead, surrounded by organic colors of grey, beige and silver. This bead has a solid sterling silver universal core. Swimming Pool retails for €55, price includes vat.

The Spiritbeads Swimming pool matches the Trollbeads Sea Glow perfectly!

I didn’t have a lot of time to play with these cute beads, but wanted to at least get a couple of different compositions. In this combo below I have mixed the new Spiritbeads Shell and Amabie Yokai with Trollbeads pearls, Phya Amazonite, Kratong (to give a seaweed type look) on a Trollbeads Bangle with Redbalifrog Frangipani Stoppers.

Wrist Shot!

Overall, this is a cute release. I really love the Amabie Yokai and it’s meaning. I love beads that are inspired by folklore. All three beads will mix well in any collection. All Spiritbeads have universal cores and fit all major brand carriers.
