OHM Beads May 2021 Review

Today Beadsaholic brings a review of the May 2021 release.

In May there is only one bead in the OHM Beads release and it’s an Australian exclusive Quokka. A quokka is a native Australian marsupial, also known as a short-tailed scrub wallaby. This marsupial is no larger than a domestic cat. Quokka’s are in the macropod family, alongside such animals as the kangaroo and the wallaby. The Quokka is a herbivorous and is mostly nocturnal. Like most marsupials they have a pouch which they carry their young in side, nice and snug. Aside from being a wild animal these cute furry mammals have very little fear of humans and often seen closely approaching humans, especially on Rottnest Island where they are abundant. Though they are approachable, if you happen to visit Australia, I would take caution and stay at a safe distance as they have been known to bite from time to time. Often, you hear that these cute creatures are seen smiling and are just too cute to be real, but they are real and certainly cute! I am excited to see the Quokka added to the OHM Australian Collection.

OHM Beads Quokka is an adorable bead that is a replica of the oh so cute Australian marsupial Quokka. She is smiling, showing her two long front teeth and is holding a selfie stick with a cell phone to take all those adorable photos for social media. In her pouch is a cute joey playing with a boomerang. There are loads of wonderful fur detailing and her tail wraps around. This bead measures approximately 12.40 mm high x 8.52 mm wide. Quokka retails for $45.

“Our little OHM Quokka is too cute! Mama and her Joey have adapted well to their interaction with humans. Joey has learned to throw a boomerang so perfectly that it returns to his tiny paw without him leaving the cozy confines of the warm pouch. Mama has let her social media celebrity go to her head, and she now enjoys smiling and posing for her smartphone on a selfie stick, posting to her many followers worldwide. Of course, she will happily take a quick QUOKKA selfie with you!

Recently #QUOKKAselfie exploded in popularity on the Internet. Tourists and celebrities flock to Australia’s southwest corner — especially to Rottnest Island — to have their photo taken with “the world’s happiest animals.” Quokkas look kinda like a miniature kangaroo crossed with a field mouse, and their bright eyes and goofy grins peer into the camera so adorably that some people have wondered if the Quokka was simply too cute to be real.

But the Quokka is indeed a real native of the land “Down Under,” and Mama Quokka carries her baby Joey in a pouch similar to her marsupial cousins, the kangaroo and wallaby. The Quokka is a nocturnal vegetarian who prefers to sleep all day within the prickly acanthocarpus bush’s protective spikes and then feed and play all night, climbing trees and chewing their cud like the cow. Australian animals are genuinely unique!

Add our QUOKKA to your bracelet, and your heart will feel immediately lighter with “the world’s happiest animals” grinning and posing for snapshots on your wrist. Catch enough “likes” and reposts, and she might even make you famous!

SMILE!” ~OHM

I am including the YouTube Preview of this cute bead which shows this bead up close all the way around.

I’ve created a few different composition and really enjoy this cute bead as it will literally fit into any composition.

In this composition I went with my current favorite OHM Glass beads Speak Softly, Big Stick and Delicate Flower. I picked a couple of my favorite Australian exclusives Didgeridoo, Wagyl and the new Quokka all on an OHM Bangle.

I am in love with this full bracelet! I’ve used both the skinny bracelet for the beads and have connected the chained bracelet to layer. This bracelet is all OHM with OHM glass in shades of blue and teal with Sugared Foam, Camp Takota, Europe exclusive, Speak Softly, Big Stick, Delicate Flower, 12 Apostle, and String Theory. I wanted to mix some of the Australian silvers with beautiful flowers, so I went with Wagyl, Quokka, Sunflowers, Willie the Wombat, Roses, Didgeridoo, Freddie the Frill and I’ve finished this bracelet off with Dragonfly-y.

In this last composition this cute Quokka and her Joey are hanging out by Lake Hillier, soaking in the sun and smelling the flowers. I went with Cosmo, Roses, Work Hard, Quokka, Lake Hillier, Sunflowers and Hazy Stripes on a Dirty Twisted bangle.

Wrist Shot

Overall, Quokka is a great addition to the Australian collection and will work in absolutely any composition.

OHM Beads Quokka is set to release April 30, 2021 and is only available on releases day on the OHM Beads Website and for those in Australia, OHM now has a local site for you to shop with Karla on the Australian Website.

As always, I enjoy hearing from you all and would love to hear your thoughts on this release? Do you have any of the Australian exclusives? I’d love to hear your favorites, so leave me a comment below ❤

XO,

Paula
