Today Beadsaholic brings a review of Black Raven Beads Frida Collection.
Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón born July 1907 in Coyoacán, Mexico, she died at the age of 47 in 1954. During her life span and beyond she was and is a renowned artist, most popular for her self-portraits, as well as nature and artifacts inspired paintings. Much of Frida work remains on display at the La Casa Azul (Blue House) the Frida Kahlo Museum. The museum resides in the house she lived in all of her life in Coyoacàn, a Boroughs in Mexico City.
Frida Kahlo is the inspiration for Black Raven Beads latest collection simply named “Frida”. This collection consist of two new designs a glass and a silver bead. The silver bead “Frida Heart” is inspired by Frida’s beautiful Flaming Heart painting and the glass bead “Casa Azul” as I’m sure you have guessed is inspired by Frida’s home and now museum with its bright shades of blue, green, yellow and red, the colors of her concrete home.

Black Raven Beads Frida Heart inspired by Frida’s Flaming Heart. Flaming hearts have deep roots in Mexican Folk Art, by Frida and many other artists. This bead gives a deep and passionate meaning. I love the double heart design with an eye in the center, which has an heart shape pupil and what looks to be rays around the eye. On top of this beautiful heart is the flaming crown. This is a sterling silver design made to fit all major brand carriers. Frida Heart retails for €45 / $43.
“Look inside your heart; Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Honour our ancestors and celebrate the lives of loved ones who passed before us during Día de Los Muertos, the day of the dead, with our Frida Kahlo-inspired heart.” ~ Black Raven Beads

“Nothing is worth more than laughter. It is strength to laugh and to abandon oneself, to be light. Tragedy is the most ridiculous thing.”
– Frida Kahlo

Black Raven Beads Casa Azul is a beautiful glass bead with shades of blue, red, yellow and green, inspired by the colors of Frida’s home and today a museum of her life and work. This is the perfect glass for an art inspired bracelet. This glass is about 15 mm high with a solid sterling silver core and will fit all major brands. Casa Azul retails for €45 / $43.
“Paint your own reality – The glass charm has the characteristic bright colours of her house and paintings. Casa Azul was the family home of Frida Kahlo, but since 1958, it has served as museum dedicated to her life and work. “ ~ Black Raven Beads

“I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality.”
– Frida Kahlo

Now for some inspiration. In this first composition I mixed some of my favorite Black Raven silvers and glass with Trollbeads Lapis and Elfbeads on a Phya Bangle, finished off with Redbalifrog stoppers.

I was excited to receive this collection as I’m a huge Art fan and to have more pieces of art inspired beads to wear on my Trollbeads Art to Go Bracelet. I have mixed BlackRaven Frida Collection with the Lundd Art Line, Trollbeads Van Gogh Sunflowers and their retired lilypad design which reminds me of Monet. I have mixed in some Trollbeads glass to match and bring out the colors in Black Ravens Casa Azul. I am totally in love with this bracelet!

“Painting completed my life. ” – Frida Kahlo

“The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration.” – Frida Kahlo
